The First Nations NGO Alliance consists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders in prominent positions within various non-Government and non-Aboriginal organisations in the child protection sector.
This self-determined group was established through their own initiative and operates independently on matters affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families. Despite being employed by supportive organisations, the members maintain independent in thought and voice, aiming to enhance their focus and influence.
With an average of 27 years of experience in the child and family sector, these leaders provide cultural leadership, guiding practice, strategy, partnerships, policies, and teams within their respective organisations.

OUR PURPOSE
We have never forgotten who we are and the cultural responsibility to our Peoples in balancing our influence in our appointed roles.
We understand the difference between Aboriginal leadership and governance and do not compete with, or provide a substitute for, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) or Aboriginal Peaks. We are champions for justice and ready allies for our Community, brothers and sisters in transition and sector reform.
Our purpose is driven by the need to address the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care. We strive to harness our collective insights, commitment, and advocacy to facilitate relationships between our Peoples, Communities and organisations in service of our children.

OUR OBJECTIVES
We are dedicated to self-representation, self-determination, and sustaining genuine engagement, respect, relationships, and connections within our Communities. Our objectives include:
Transitioning the care of First Nations Children to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs)
1
Increasing investment in early intervention and family preservation funding
2
Establishing National and jurisdictional Aboriginal Children’s Commissioners
3
Addressing systemic barriers that perpetuate racism and maintain the status quo
4
OUR STRATEGY
Our Strategy was developed through a comprehensive process utilising both First Nations wisdom through the practice of deep Yarning, and modern innovation frameworks such as Human Centred Design, specifically Systems Mapping and stakeholder analysis.
